You heard the cuccos crowing as the sun shone through your window onto your face. You sat up groggily in bed as you looked about your room before getting up to go get dressed. You lived in the small village of Kakariko with your mom; she ran a bakery that you had always helped her with. Today she had given you the day off since you ran to Hyrule town yesterday to get ingredients for the coming week.

However sometimes you wished she wouldn't give you the day off, mainly due to the fact that you really didn't know what to do since he left. You felt your heart sink in your chest as you were reminded of your old friend Link. It had been years since you had seen him last and it killed you that you didn't know where he was or how he was doing. To be honest you had always thought he was cute since the first time you met him and when you became friends those feelings only grew. You finished getting dressed as you remembered back to when you two first met.

~~~~~
At the time you were 8 or 9 at the most; your mom had sent you to Lon Lon Ranch to get some milk. Knowing she didn't need the milk right away so you spent some time with your friend Malon playing on the ranch as her dad slept. Before you knew it the sun was getting close to setting so you grabbed the basket of milk and said goodbye to Malon hoping you would make it back to Kakariko before it got dark.
Unfortunately it got dark and you were only halfway back to the village. You started to pick up your pace but it was difficult to do while carrying the milk. It got very dangerous in Hyrule field at night, usually if you were out at night in the field you had your bow with you for protection. But this time you didn't have it because you didn't think you would have spent as much time at the ranch as you did.
You let out a deep breath of relief as the river came into view on the horizon; this meant you were almost back. You slowed you pace slightly figuring if nothing had attacked you yet it probably won't now. You quickly ate those words when you heard a howl coming from behind you. You spun around quickly to see a rather hungry looking wolfos stalking toward you. Its charcoal fur was unkempt and it had huge yellow eyes stared at you hungrily. You took in a deep breath hoping that if you ditched the milk you would be fast enough to escape from it.
You stood there waiting for an opening as the wolfos paced back and forth in front of you. You probably only stood there for a minute but it seemed like ages when something made a sound in the distance temporarily distracting the beast. At that same moment you dropped the basket and made a break for it but after a few feet the beast had caught up and had you pinned to the ground. 'This is it.' You thought to yourself shutting your eyes tight as you waited for the razor sharp teeth to rip into your flesh at any moment. But after a few minutes passed and nothing happened, you opened your eyes. At that moment you felt the weight of the wolfos being pushed off you. You rolled over and sat up as you came face to face with a boy with blonde hair and pointy ears in a green hat and matching green tunic. You blushed a light shade of pink as you looked into the boy's blue eyes noticing how cute he was.
"Ummm….Thanks for saving me." You managed to say after several minutes of silence.
"What are you doing out here alone at night?" the boy asked as he held out a hand and offered to help you up.
"My mom sent me to go get milk over at Lon Lon Ranch. I ended up talking to my friend Malon and lost track of time." You explained as you took his hand, blushing deeper from the contact.
"Where do you live?" he asked as you began to brush yourself off.
"In Kakariko village just ahead." You answered.
"I'll walk you there, come on." The boy said bluntly as he headed towards the village.
"W-Well that really isn't necessary." You stammered, "It's only a little farther I-I can get there on my own. You don't have to bother escorting me."
He stopped and looked back at you as if thinking. Unfortunately you couldn't tell what; finally he said, "Are you coming or not?"
You let out a sigh of defeat as you began walking towards him and said, "Can I at least know your name."
"Yeah, I'm Link."
"I'm __________"
On the walk back you told him about you and your mom, life in the village, and other stuff. After awhile you asked some questions about him and learned he was looking for his friend named Navi who was a fairy. You could tell when he was talking to you that he really missed his small companion. But before you could ask anything else you had arrived at the front gate of the village.
"Well you should be safe from here on out, so bye." Link said as he turned around.
"Wait!" You said as you grabbed his wrist.
He turned around to look at you. You blushed a deep shade of red and stared at the ground as you muttered, "I was wondering if you'd like to come by tomorrow and hang out."
You lifted your head slightly to see him thinking, 'Damn I wish I could tell what he was thinking about.'
After a few minutes he smiled and said, "Okay then, see you tomorrow."
You let go of his wrist and let him walk off back you Hyrule field as you blushed three different shades of red. Once he was out of sight and your heart had settled down a smile broke out on your face as you jumped in the air and yelled "YES!"
~~~~~

You eventually found out that he was planning on going around Hyrule looking for his little fairy friend. And you would go months at a time without seeing him but he always came back and your relationship as friends always got stronger, even though you did most of the talking. The last time you saw him was 7 years ago when he told you he was going back to Kokiri to look for Navi. You had always waited patiently for Link to return from his trip, and he always returned mostly unharmed. But when he didn't return after a few months you began to worry and even though you always told yourself he was okay, it killed you not to know if he were dead or alive. The thing was you loved Link and you really wished he wasn't dead so that you would be able to tell him. But the possibility that he might be always made your eyes water.

You finished getting ready as you said goodbye to your mom. You grabbed your bow and quiver and shut the door behind you. Since there really wasn't much to do around the village you had decided to go to Lon Lon Ranch and visit Malon.

As you were entering Hyrule Field you noticed something in the distance. Like someone on a horse, you thought it was a little strange since usually the only people who ride a horse around the field were you or Malon. But you shrugged it off as nothing and kept walking. You were about halfway to the ranch when you noticed the person on the horse again. This time you froze; you noticed the horse was very similar to Epona, the horse Link owned. But that's not what made you freeze. What made you freeze was the blonde haired boy with a green hat and green tunic riding the horse.

You felt tears well up, "No it can't be." You whispered to yourself as the horse and its rider got closer, "It can't be him it just can't be. Can it?" Eventually the rider stopped and got off of his horse a couple yards in front of you and began walking in your direction. There was no mistaking it, it was Link. You felt your heart pounding harder the closer he got; you rubbed the tears away with the end of your sleeve, you were so happy he was okay. Eventually he was standing in front of you looking down looking down with his soft smile and gentle blue eyes. And seeing him smile you couldn't help but smile yourself.

Finally after a few minutes of silence you blurted out, "Where the hell have you been!? Do you know how long I've been waiting!? 7 years that's how long!"

"It's nice to see you too, ________" Link said with a laugh.

"That's what you have to say to me after all those years?" You asked playfully putting your hands on your hips.

"Not really." Link said stepping forward.

You looked at him a little confused letting your hands fall from your hips. You blushed at how close you two were and at how much more handsome Link had gotten since the last time you two saw each other. And before you could even ask he tilted your head up lightly and kissed you gently on the lips. He broke away to pull you into a hug.

"I missed you." He said.

"I missed you too." You said as you snaked your arms around his waist feeling the tears coming back.

"I love you." He whispered into your ear.

"I love you too." You breathed out as you buried your head into his shoulder.

So I decided to try my hand at reader inserts just for fun. This is my first reader insert so I hope you guys like it. This is also my first one shot, so yay!

Anywho I don't own Link or Hyrule or any other Legend of Zelda stuff in here.

Please comment tell me what you think.

EDIT:
Sorry I forgot to put in the time periods. This story takes place in between the games Ocarina of Time and Majoras Maks and sometime after Majoras Mask.
